Supacell at Thamesmead

Residents and young people from Thamesmead gathered at The Nest Community Centre this week for a special evening with directors of the hit Netflix series Supacell.

The event, organised by us in partnership with Peabody, Netflix and community organisation Youth Unity, featured a live talk and podcast recording exploring the making of Supacell and the importance of creating opportunities for young people in the screen industries.

Set and filmed extensively in Thamesmead, Supacell has become closely associated with the area, showcasing local estates, public spaces and communities to audiences around the world. The event celebrated the show’s connection to Thamesmead while highlighting the growing relationship between film production and local community engagement.

Alongside discussing the success of the series, the conversation also focused on pathways into the industry and the importance of supporting emerging talent. Our Set Ready programme, which has helped connect local people with opportunities on set with Supacell, was highlighted as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to careers in the screen industries.

Our Film Service Manager, Oliver Guthrie, said: “Supacell has had a huge impact not only creatively, but locally as well. Seeing a major production engage so positively with Thamesmead and support opportunities for new entrants into the industry has been incredibly valuable, and it was fantastic to bring people together for this event.”

Series 2 officially wrapped filming and is currently in post-production, with a release date still to be confirmed. When it airs, you’ll spot a range of FilmFixer locations in the spotlight, and we can’t wait!
