Pillion in Bromley

Bromley’s streets, parks and local landmarks are enjoying a moment in the spotlight thanks to Pillion, one of last year’s most talked-about British independent films.

Written and directed by Harry Lighton, Pillion stars Harry Melling and Alexander Skarsgård and attracted significant attention on the festival circuit, earning praise following its premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

While many productions use London locations as stand-ins for other places, Pillion embraces Bromley as its setting. The film follows Colin, a Bromley resident whose life is transformed by an unexpected relationship, with much of the story unfolding against the backdrop of familiar local locations.

Throughout filming, the production made use of a range of locations across the borough, including Bromley High Street, Market Square, and The Spinneys. The Bertha James Day Centre was used as a Unit Base, clocking up thousands of hours of use across filming. We visited the crew during a shoot at Norman Park, as pictured below.

Pillion is a great example of how local locations can become an integral part of a story, helping to shape the film’s identity rather than simply serving as a backdrop. Director Harry Lighton has spoken about how the borough became central to the film, even making a point of saying that the Council was “very helpful”.

We’re proud to have supported filming in Bromley and look forward to seeing more productions make the most of everything the borough has to offer.
