SUSTAINABILITY BEHIND THE LENS

FilmFixer and The Generator Project recently supported a fantastic event called Sustainability Behind the Lens at Sky Studios Elstree. It was hosted by the Production Guild of Great Britain and organised by their Sustainability Committee as an open day for industry professionals to meet and network with cutting-edge green technology suppliers.

We sponsored five marshalls to work on the event and we’re grateful for their hard work on the day. All five of them had completed our Set Ready training programme, which is run by FilmFixer and aims to increase access to the industry through training and employment opportunities (just like this one!)

The event saw a healthy turn out of Unit Managers, Location Managers, Production Managers, and Sustainability Professionals, so it was a brilliant opportunity for the exhibitors to showcase their wares and for attendees to network with a common goal in mind. The hall was abuzz with invaluable conversations about how to further lead the Film & TV industry towards greener solutions.

The Generator Project is an initiative run by FilmFixer and Sustainable Film. We are working with local Councils, industry peers, and sustainability stakeholders to help transition the Film & TV Industry towards increasingly cleaner & greener options. ‘Sustainability Behind the Lens’ allowed us to have  fascinating conversations about reducing the number of generators used on set in favour of more sustainable, low-emission solutions. We also promoted our growing information hub, where we boost suppliers of cleaner energy solutions.

We were proud to be able to unveil changes that we are rolling out across FilmApp (managed by Apply4). These changes will allow us to gather more accurate and more expansive data around generator and battery use for large-scale productions. It’s an initiative we’re introducing in Camden at first, with a view to replicate the model across the majority of London boroughs.

Alongside Sustainable Film, we look forward to producing sustainability reports that will provide detailed information on large-scale productions filming in Camden. The reports will reveal a valuable overview of the emissions of productions in London and offer Location Managers and Unit Managers data-backed recommendations for future shoots.

We look forward to announcing more details over the coming months – stay tuned for The Generator Project’s progress, and come see us at the next sustainability event!
