Friends of Russell Square

The film and television industry has played a valuable role in supporting the continued greening and enhancement of Russell Square Gardens. Through contributions made by productions filming or using the area as a unit base, donations have been directed towards planting initiatives led by The Friends of Russell Square. These contributions have helped introduce a variety of seasonal planting, with five different types of bulbs and plants installed, including daffodils, bluebells and hellebores, adding both colour and biodiversity to the gardens.

Russell Square, one of Camden’s most significant and well-used green spaces in the heart of Bloomsbury, continues to benefit from this collaborative approach between the filming industry, local groups and the council. The additional planting not only enhances the visual appeal of the square but also contributes to its ecological value, supporting pollinators and improving the overall environment for visitors. This partnership demonstrates how filming activity can deliver positive, lasting impacts for local green spaces, reinforcing the industry’s contribution beyond economic benefits.
