A greener industry

From career pathways to electric vehicles, FilmFixer is taking part in conversations looking at how the screen industries can turn sustainability ambitions into practical change.

Green Futures

At the London Clean Air Initiative’s Green Futures event, Luke Wilson, FilmFixer’s Head of Sustainability, hosted a panel exploring sustainability careers in film and television, joined by Amelia Price from Sustainable Film and Arunee Sarasetsiri from the BFI.

The event brings together young people and jobseekers with employers and organisations working across the green economy, combining careers advice with industry talks and practical workshops. This year’s event was supported by Camden, Islington and Westminster councils.

Luke’s panel explored the growing range of sustainability roles within film and television and the pathways available to people interested in building careers in this area. A lively Q&A followed, opening up further discussion around how the industry can make these routes more visible and accessible to new entrants.

Shifting Gears

Earlier in the week, Luke also attended Shifting Gears: Connecting the Screen and EV Sectors, hosted by Creative Zero in partnership with Netflix and the BFI. The event brought together senior representatives from across studios, suppliers, screen production and the EV industry to explore how productions can make greater use of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.

What’s next?

The conversations raised opportunities to connect sustainability skills more closely with our existing training and employment work, including exploring how sustainability pathways could be incorporated into Set Ready. This is something we’re excited to work on and roll out for future iterations of the course.

Both events also reinforced the value of collaboration. Connecting councils, productions, sustainability specialists, suppliers and new entrants will be central to making lower-impact filming more achievable at scale. And we believe it’s all possible! Luke will be attending FOCUS in December, and will be looking to continue these conversations with industry colleagues across the board. See you there?
