Set Ready in South London

“What’s it really like working on a set?”

“Who will I meet?”

“What will I actually be doing? And what skills do I need?”

Our latest Set Ready program had the answers for a cohort of 21 young people from Bromley, Southwark, Croydon and Creative Sparkworks who attended the two-day training course on 12th and 13th September. The film industry is notoriously difficult to enter, with many barriers in place. Set Ready attempts to help trainees, develop key soft skills around language, hierarchy, planning, confidence, etiquette and communication.

Our trainees were given professional advice by industry experts including Christian McWilliams (Supervising Location Manager), Andy Pavord (co-founder of FilmFixer and Set Ready), Akshay Desai ( Location Scout) and past Set Ready Alumni Ronni and Mustapha. They can then look forward to one on one support as they navigate their first jobs as work placement trainees.

Our feedback shows that the knowledge and confidence our trainees gain from working on professional productions means they are in a much better position to succeed in their chosen role. Set Ready aims to connect talent with opportunities and create training, networking and learning pipelines. This in turn, supports more diversity in the UK’s film crews.

If you’ve always wanted to work in TV and film production but don’t have the experience, industry contacts or qualifications, Set Ready can help you.

The next Set Ready training course will take place in East London in November. Watch this space for more details or please keep an eye on www.setready.co.uk
