GHOSTBUSTERS IN CAMDEN

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire was released on 22nd March 2024 and saw Ghostbusters old-and-new uniting at the iconic NYC firehouse (where it all began).

The film stars Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, and Logan Kim reprising their roles from Afterlife, alongside Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton returning as their much loved characters from the earlier films for a wonderful dose of nostalgia.

They filmed in Camden’s Russell Square Gardens last year for a key scene, which established itself as a firm fan favourite. In the scene, Phoebe Spengler (played by Mckenna Grace) finds herself playing chess with a ghost called Melody (played by Emily Alyn Lind).

The crew spent a couple of days prepping the space – including installing their very own chess tables – and then filmed overnight. It was a large-scale shoot with over one hundred people on location, and the production made generous donations to the Friends of Russell Square and the Bloomsbury Association in recognition of any disruption caused.

On wrap, the crew left no trace of the many cranes and vehicles that had been brought into the square for the shoot. Rumour has it, though, that chess pieces have been moving of their own accord since the shoot…

Big thanks to the Supervising Location Manager Matt Risebrow and the entire Locations Department for a great shoot. Who you gonna call? Camden Film Office!
